PDF File Size Estimator – Estimate Compressed PDF Size Before Compression

Before you compress a large PDF for email or upload, you may want to know how small it could become. The PDF File Size Estimator helps you estimate possible file sizes at different compression levels without changing your original PDF.

Upload a PDF to see its original size, total pages and average size per page. The tool then shows estimated sizes for common compression presets and lets you try a custom reduction from 0% to 95% with instant calculation.

What does this estimator show?

  • Original PDF size and total page count
  • Average size per page
  • Preset estimates – Light, Balanced, Strong, Maximum compression
  • For each preset – estimated size, saved bytes and size per page
  • Custom reduction slider with estimated size, saving and per-page size
  • Comparison from original size to estimated size

Why estimate file size before compressing?

Many email providers and job portals have strict file size limits like 2 MB, 5 MB or 10 MB. If your PDF is too large, it may fail to send or upload. By estimating first, you can decide whether light compression is enough or you need strong compression, before actually compressing.

How is the estimate calculated?

This tool does not compress your PDF. It calculates estimates based on percentage reduction applied to the original file size. Actual compressed output can be higher or lower depending on images, fonts, metadata and the compression method used. The estimate helps you plan, not guarantee an exact final size.

How to use the estimator

  1. Select the PDF whose size you want to analyze.
  2. View original size, pages and average size per page.
  3. Compare light, balanced, strong and maximum estimates.
  4. Adjust the custom reduction slider to see instant estimates.
  5. Choose a compression level that meets your size requirement.

All estimation happens in your browser. No file is uploaded to a server and no storage is used. Only resume and biodata tools need login. The estimator is free forever, no signup, no watermark.
